The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) added a Magento store flaw to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. The flaw is tracked as CVE-2026-48356. Researchers call it PolyShell. CISA listed it because of evidence of active exploitation. Federal agencies have until November 10, 2026, to remediate it on internet-facing systems. CISA also encourages private organizations to prioritize the same list.

Here's the practical takeaway for East Texas business owners. If you run an online store on Adobe Commerce or Magento Open Source, a fix already exists. Adobe published security bulletin APSB26-73 on July 14, 2026. That update closes this critical unrestricted file-upload issue along with several other Magento and Adobe Commerce flaws. Adobe rates CVE-2026-48356 as Critical, with a CVSS base score of 9.6. Authentication isn't required to exploit it.

In plain English, PolyShell lets an attacker upload a dangerous file through the store's guest-cart interface. Depending on how the web server is set up, that file can become a foothold on the store. Security researchers at Sansec named the issue and have reported mass attack waves against Magento stores. One Sansec report described hundreds of stores hit in a short window. Patching is the first step. Confirming nothing was planted before the patch is the second.

Apply Adobe's July 2026 security release for your Magento or Adobe Commerce line, or confirm your hosting partner already did. Then ask for a compromise check. Look for unexpected files in upload folders, odd scripts in CMS pages or blocks, and admin accounts nobody recognizes. Change store passwords after cleanup. A patch closes the door. It doesn't sweep out anything that was left behind.

You don't need to become a Magento expert overnight. You do need a clear answer from whoever runs the store. Is the July fix installed? Has the site been checked for leftover files?
