Tesla opened unsupervised Robotaxi rides in Fort Worth at 6:00 a.m. Central Time on Monday, November 2, 2026, across about 143 square miles from Saginaw to Benbrook and from White Settlement to Haltom City and Forest Hill. There's no safety monitor in the car. Fort Worth is Tesla's fourth Texas Robotaxi city and its seventh unsupervised U.S. city, joining Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. Elon Musk's company is moving city by city on a clock measured in months, not decades.
That short clock stands out next to Waymo's longer one. Google's self-driving project started in 2009, Waymo spun out in 2016, and the first public fully driverless ride-hailing service opened in the Phoenix area on October 8, 2020. San Francisco's public service arrived in June 2024, Los Angeles in November 2024, Austin in March 2025, and Atlanta in June 2025. Tesla's paid Austin Robotaxi service began June 22, 2025, with a safety monitor in the front seat at first. Limited unsupervised Austin rides followed in January 2026, full-metro unsupervised Austin service by early June 2026, Dallas and Houston on April 18, 2026, Miami around July 3, Orlando and Tampa around July 21, and Fort Worth on November 2. About 16 months after the Austin start, Tesla is already in seven unsupervised cities.
Waymo has picked up its pace since Tesla's Austin launch in June 2025. On February 24, 2026, Waymo's own blog described "accelerated growth" as it welcomed its first public riders in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Orlando on the same day, bringing it to ten commercial metros with a goal of more than one million rides per week by year-end. That's four new cities in one day from a company that once took almost four years to go from Phoenix to San Francisco. Nobody can prove exactly why, but it looks like Tesla's arrival lit a fire under the competition, and riders are the ones who win.
For Brownsboro firms, the lesson is less about catching a ride and more about planning when a market moves this fast.
