Bar chart of combined capital spending by nine leading cloud providers: $272 billion in 2024, $465 billion in 2025, $957 billion estimated for 2026, and $1,531 billion forecast for 2027.

Market research firm TrendForce said on October 14 that the world's nine leading cloud providers will spend about $957 billion on capital expenditures in 2026. Capital expenditures, or capex, are the money a company spends on long-lasting assets such as buildings, servers, and chips. TrendForce's forecast is 106% higher than its 2025 figure of $465 billion.

The nine companies are Google, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Oracle, ByteDance, Tencent, Alibaba, and Baidu. TrendForce expects their combined capex to pass $1.5 trillion in 2027. That would be another 60% increase on top of this year's jump.

The companies' own guidance points in the same direction. Amazon told investors in July that it expects to spend about $220 billion in 2026. Alphabet raised its 2026 range to between $195 billion and $205 billion. Microsoft gave a calendar-year estimate of about $175 billion. Oracle reaffirmed $90 billion to $95 billion for its current fiscal year.

Much of this money buys AI servers. Many are built around graphics processing units, or GPUs, which are the chips that handle the heavy math behind AI models. TrendForce expects 2027 orders to center on complete server racks such as NVIDIA's GB300 and VR200 and AMD's Helios. Several providers also design their own application-specific integrated circuits, or ASICs. These are custom chips built to do one kind of work efficiently. Google's tensor processing unit, or TPU, is a well-known example.

For business owners, this buildout is encouraging news. Cloud AI tools such as Microsoft 365 Copilot and newer AI agents run in data centers like these, not on the server in your office. More capacity gives those tools room to grow and improve. Small and midsize companies can rent that power by the month instead of buying it.

There is one practical caution. TrendForce says supply shortages are pushing up component prices, especially for memory. If you plan to replace servers or computers in the next year, it is wise to get quotes early and leave some room in the budget.

Getting ready for AI does not require a data center. AI assistants give better answers when files are organized and sharing permissions are correct. Good security also matters, because an AI tool can surface anything a user is allowed to open. Cleaning up those basics now helps your team get real value from the tools as they improve.
