Tesla's purpose-built Cybercab is having a big month. On October 10, Tesla's official Robotaxi account on X announced that, one month after launch, the company has "scaled to 300+ Cybercabs serving Austin – an 8x increase in 30 days." The next morning, Elon Musk quoted that post with a short verdict of his own: "Cybercab is scaling."
The growth shows up in the paperwork, too. Tesla opened public Cybercab rides in Austin on September 4, and Texas automated vehicle registry records cited by Teslarati and other outlets show the registered Cybercab count jumping from 169 to 319 after Tesla filed 150 new vehicles in a single batch last week. Going from launch to more than 300 driverless two-seaters on Austin streets in about a month is a remarkable pace for a brand-new vehicle.
The other headline is where the two-seater goes next. Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla's vice president of AI software, quoted the milestone post and wrote, "Two years since the 10/10 Cybercab WeRobot event, the cabs are everywhere in Austin now. Dallas soon." Tesla already runs Robotaxi service in Dallas with self-driving Model Y vehicles, so Dallas would become the first city outside Austin to get the Cybercab itself, which has no steering wheel or pedals. No launch date has been announced, and Tesla's third-quarter earnings report on October 21 is a natural place to watch for one.
For East Texas businesses, the practical takeaway is less about hailing a driverless cab tomorrow and more about how fast vehicle technology is now moving. Today's cars and trucks are rolling computers that depend on software updates, cellular connectivity, GPS, and cloud accounts. If your company runs service vans, delivery vehicles, or even a couple of trucks with telematics, it is a good time to make sure those systems have strong passwords, current firmware, and someone keeping an eye on the data they collect. Planning for the next vehicle purchase is also a good time to ask how it will connect to your office network and the apps your team already uses.
